| In 1980 Dick Godwin
and his wife Rickie bought the Sonoma County
property that was to become Moss Oak Vineyard,
located within a spectacular 144-acre ranch
off Chalk Hill Road in the Alexander Valley.
They became involved in the Sonoma County
wine community and were dedicated to farming
their land with the idea that someday they
would produce wines under their family label.
The first Godwin ‘Moss Oak’ Merlot was released
in 2001 to numerous awards and critical
acclaim.
The Godwin's sold their Moss Oak property
in 2002, however the family continues their
commitment to producing world-class Sonoma
County wines. Under the direction of their
son Kent and renowned and founding Godwin
winemaker Kerry Damskey, Godwin Family Vineyards
now produces small quantities of two luxury
varietals—Russian River Valley Chardonnay
and Sonoma Valley Merlot. Kerry is recognized
on four continents for his acuity and focus
in creating brilliant wines and his talent
as a winemaker lies in his ability to create
a unique statement from a vineyard. Superior
wines are created when the elements of soil
and climate are integrated with the winemaker's
skill.
