| Richard Mendelson
and Marilyn Knight-Mendelson met in Burgundy,
France, in 1977, and have lived around vineyards
and wine ever since. After stints in France
and Marilyn’s homeland of Australia, they
moved to the Napa Valley in 1986 where they
purchased vineyard and began making their
unique ‘old world’ dessert wines. Richard
is a leading wine law attorney, and Marilyn
teaches English as a second language to
vineyard workers in the Napa Valley. Richard,
an artist and metal sculptor as well as
a vintner, creates the original artwork
that adorns each bottle of Mendelson wine.
Mendelson wines are hand-crafted gems
produced in small lots in Napa, California
from the finest California vineyards. The
Mendelsons take special care in producing
their wines and in 2003, added a new world
Pinot Noir to their portfolio. Fermentation
and aging take place in one of Napa’s oldest
stone wineries, dating from 1878. Winemaker
Charles Hendricks is meticulous about selecting
grapes at their optimum maturity and balance.
