| With roots in the
wine industry that date back to the 1770s,
the Mettler family is one of Lodi’s oldest
farming families. Their Lodi vineyards were
first planted by George Mettler in the late
1800s and today the sixth and seventh generations
of the family continue the tradition started
centuries ago.
For years, the Mettler family has produced
grapes for many well-known wineries. In
1999, the Mettler family started working
with winemaker Barry Gnekow to create the
first commercial vintages of Mettler Family
Vineyards wines.
Today, Larry Mettler, George’s great-grandson,
still farms the original vineyards. His
three children Kimberly, Kelli and Adam
are at the helm of the family wine operation
along with Kimberly’s husband and vineyard
manager Jason Eells. The Mettler family
are stewards of the land with their organically
farmed winegrowing estate.
